well guys and gals, I’m sorry to report we whimped out and only did 90 miles on Saturday toward our goal of 100 MILES off road. We had one 29er SS, one 29er geared, one 26 geared and road one touring bike.
25 mph sustained headwinds with 35 to 40 mph gusts for the first 15 straight miles just shouldn’t have given us that much trouble, should it have? Maybe it was the 36 degree starting temps? Do we look happy to have made it through the first leg….

We heard rumors about trail being a little wet. With a ratchet pedaling technique Jin did his best to keep his feet dry.

I didn’t notice any ATV damage on the trail…..there was however a large chunk that had mysteriously disappeared!?!

I’m sure the 30″ of water we had to pedal through at one point couldn’t have helped cause us to lose that last 10 miles, could it? I just can’t believe Brian resorted to drafting off of Jin to save his legs for the dry roads ahead! (Jin’s dry feet=0, swollen river=1)

A blown tire had us thinking about calling for help. Good think nobody was hurt as help would have been a little slow getting to us.

Sunday morning we awoke to a partly cloudy sky and only a slight breeze compared to the gales of Saturday. Our group increased to five and we started to ride home on the Sugar River Trail.

A quick drawing of straws determined who got to check for tunnel trolls.

Oh well, there’s always next year to hit the 100 mark….the question is….do you have BALLS?

What: CORP April meeting
When: 7pm, April 24th
Where: Fitchburg City Hall, park at the far right side lot when you pull in.
Why: Summary of our first month of trail building, planning for the rest of our workdays, and brainstorming for upcoming events. We will be using this meeting to come up with ideas for a summer kickoff party, IMBA visit, and Blue Mound 12 Hour race. Come out, have a drink, and help make the summer a great one for CORP.

This coming weekend is shaping up to be extremely busy for the CORP crew.
First off a small group of us will be embarking on the first annual BALLS weekend. We’ll be covering 100 miles of rail trail on Saturday and another 60 on Sunday. Spending a night at the quaint Earth Rider cycling botique in Brodhead. Pictures and stories will be posted for sure!
Saturday we have trail work days at both Quarry Ridge and Blue Mound. The upper trails at QR are in good shape but the lower areas are a wet mess. What I’m looking for is a small crack team to attack the duties at QR. Dave and Brendan will be leading the workday and Let’s say the first three people to post a comment could round out their team.
The majority of those wishing to lend a hand are strongly encouraged to head out to Blue Mound so we can make more amazing progress on the campground trail reroute.
I was hoping we could fire up the grills, ride, and relax at QR this weekend but it’s going to take a little more time to dry out. I’m pretty sure the Blue Mound crew could be convinced to stop by the fabulous Harley Blue in Blue Mound for a refreshment after the dirty work. Heading to QR….Ten Pin is just across the street.
Post a comment to let us know your plans for the weekend!
Thanks,
Scott Baryenbruch
