Ride to the movies with Gary Fisher

Published by gjbean under Uncategorized

On Friday May 9th the East Side Trek Store put on event to benefit the BFW.  Gary Fisher was in attendance to meet and greet people, Trader Joe’s showed up with a bunch of good food too.  We hung out at the store for an hour or so, many people bought raffle tickets for a Gary Fisher Monona commuter bike they were giving away.  I talked to Gary for a couple minutes, and he autographed my ‘96 Big Sur hardtail.

We finally got together outside and mounted up on bikes, maybe 250 people or so.  I was riding a borrowed Trek Lime with coaster brake, 4-speed auto gearbox, and a seat big enough for a 400 pounder.  Quite the experience, I don’t think I’ll be getting one of those to replace my Epic.  We took a police escorted ride to Eastgate Cinema for a screening of Klunkerz, the new movie about the people and places important in the origin of moutain biking.  They had set up bike racks outside the theater for our rides, and someone stayed out to watch them so they didn’t even need to be locked.  There was even free popcorn and soda for us on the way in.

The movie was really cool, you should see it.  I purchased a copy on DVD if we want to watch it after a CORP meeting sometime.  After the movie, Gary did a Q&A for maybe 45 minutes, and then they raffled off the bike (I didn’t win, no surprise there!).  Then we all rode back to the store.  The event was a really good time, and I wish I would have seen some of you guys there.  Big thanks to everyone that helped put on the event.
