That’s right - we are cutting new trail at QR! The hard part is done (corridor clearing) and now we need a day of bench cutting and berm building to finish things off. Meet in the parking lot/pond at 8 am or come find us on the trail if you can’t make it at 8.
If you haven’t attended a work day before, no worries. I recommend long pants, long-sleeves, and work gloves. Tools will be provided and someone that’s helped out before can show you what needs to be done.

Where/when: Quarry Ridge parking lot, 8 am, 5/23. If you can’t make it at 8 don’t be afraid to show up at whatever time works best. We’ll work till noon and grab some wings and drinks at BW3’s afterwards.
What: Trailbuilding season isn’t over quite yet! The plan is to start work on some new trail and improve some existing lines. More specifically:
- Top priority is clearing the corridor for the brand new downhill trail. This trail will run somewhat parallel to the downhill section of the main loop and offer an alternative (and somewhat more aggressive) route down the hill. Think fast and flowy and fun for everyone, thanks in part to some IMBA design assistance.
- Reroute at the base of the big climb to avoid the severely eroded section.
- Improvements to the 3 sisters line. There is a new lead-in trail which could use a couple of rollers as well as the big drop which we would like to angle out more so the crazies can hit it with more speed. The features near the end of the trail could also use a wheelbarrow or two of dirt.
- Clear away some sand and other erosion in the newly established lines in the sandy bowl.
Why: Whether the entire group focuses on #1 or we split up into different groups depends on who shows up and what folks are in the mood for. The message I’m trying to send here is that if you show up, you can probably choose to work on something that you will personally enjoy riding, regardless of your style.
How: If you haven’t attended a work day before, no worries. I recommend long pants, long-sleeves, and work gloves. Tools will be provided and someone that’s helped out before can show you what needs to be done.
Weather: who knows at this point. As of Thursday evening the forecast is chance of isolated T-storms on Saturday but it seems to be a moving target this week. Let’s plan to build unless there is an ominous storm hanging over Dane County in the early morning.
See you on Saturday,
- Brendan
