We’ve Got The Best…Let’s Prove It!

Published by Bcbear under Uncategorized

Hey Guys,

MTBR has a little poll going on right now to vote for your favorite trail in Wisconsin and for the best advocate in Wisconsin.  The winner of each category will be presented at Kettlepalooza in October.

Picking a best trail is a little personal and I won’t influence you any certain way on that one.  The advocate situation deserves some props.

Walt Hougas has been an absolute machine at Blue Mounds over the past number of years and I can’t say how excited I would be to see him win this little contest.  His work goes largely unrewarded…..let’s not let that happen this time!  Most of you know Walt or have at least ridden some of his rock strewn handiwork.  Know him or not please take a few minutes to throw a vote his direction.

Thank you for taking the time to give Walter Hougas the credit he deserves and PLEASE pass this on to anyone you feel would but in a vote to support Walter’s efforts!

See ya,

Scott Baryenbruch

Pitch Black Recon Ride!!!

Published by Bcbear under Uncategorized

When: July 31st at 7pm

Where: Cam-Rock County Park (area III parking lot)

Who: Anybody and everybody that wants to come out and play!

Why: Course Recon for the upcoming race

The 411: It’s going to be a big night for sleepy little Rockdale.  Charge up the lights and come out to play.  Planning on a quick 30 minute CORP meeting at 7pm sharp followed by laps of the awesome Cam-Rock Trail System.  CORP will be providing free beer and rumor has it the Viking Biking Club will be stoking a bonfire.

Don’t have a light?  That’s no excuse as there will be several extras available to try out.  If you haven’t ridden at night or are thinking about purchasing a new light this is a great chance to try something before you buy.

Hungry?  There should be a grill fired up about 6pm or 6:30ish.  Bring something to throw on and get your weekend started right!

Dirt Jump Work Day

Published by bmmullen under Uncategorized

(from Brian Baldis as Mongoose Bikes)

COME ON OUT to a work day at the Stoughton Bike Park this Saturday 7/18. We will start at 8:00AM and focus on grooming/smoothing the dirt jumps, pump track and berms. The city is supplying a water tank truck so we can get the dirt damp and moldable. We’ll work for a few hours and RIDE afterward to enjoy our labors. All are welcome to come out and lend a helping hand as you have time.

Things you should bring: Shovel, garden rake, gloves, water and snack, sun screen, BIKE.

Hope to see you there. For directions, use 317 W. Broadway, Stoughton, WI in MapQuest. This is the last house address next to the bike park (the park does not have an address).

Stoughton Bike Park

Published by bmmullen under Uncategorized

Mongoose Bikes, Schaefer Tracks and the City of Stoughton,WI have teamed up to build an all inclusive bike park to serve the greater Madsion, WI area. Located on the south side of Stoughton in an area called the Mel Bakke Bike Park the facility has been 3 years in the making. Originally the City had allocated the land for bikes because BMX riders were riding the local skateboard park. The first portion of construction began in 2007 and involved pouring a concrete slab and building a series of wood ramps. Adjacent to the ramps sat roughly 2 acres of open dirt area which was never developed until recently when Mongoose and Schaefer Tracks teamed up to aid the City in the building of proper dirt jumps, a pump track and a skills park using 400+ cubic yards of dirt. The bike park is not fully completed, but well underway and should be done this summer. The design is meant to have something for BMX and MTB at all skill levels making it a true bike park and not just a BMX park.

The City of Stoughton has run out of funding for the bike park and all the work provided by Mongoose Bikes and Schaefer Tracks was pro-bono with the aid of local volunteers. Much more is needed to make the bike park the best it can be as well as maintain it into the future. Anyone interested in making a contribution of money or materials should contact Brian Baldis at baldis44@yahoo.com. More work dates will be arranged in the near future to complete the pump track and skills area. Signs will posted on the park gate with work dates and times as well as on the bike park portion of the City of Stoughton web page. Directions from Madison: Take 51 south off the Beltline to Stoughton. Turn right on Page st. Go a couple blocks and look for a park on the right after a 4 way stop.
