Race Directors!

Published by Bcbear under Uncategorized

Alright with the Blue Mound 12 less than 48 hours away it’s time to introduce our first time race directors.  After a number of great races Garett Kipp decided to pass the duties to somebody else this year.  I think it was around a campfire at our IMBA Trail Care Crew visit that I first asked Nate if he was interested in taking the reigns…..my memory is a bit foggy from that night so if you want the real story check with Nater.

Nate and Kevin decided to team up on the duty of organizing and promoting the race this year.  Without further ado…..

1. Name: Kevin “the skidmaster” Last

2. Position: Race Co-Director for 12 Hours of Blue Mound

3. How long have you been riding: I’ve been riding continuously for 22 yrs, but riding with purpose for about 13 years.

4. Current bike: Surly 1×1…  but there’s a Pivot Mach 429 on the way!  :) (editors note: he’s got the 429…these questions were answered a long time ago)

5. Pre-race trail improvements: Walt is working on some great trail re-routes.  I can’t wait to help build ‘em!

6. Best CORP event: Blue Mound State Park - 12 Hours of Blue Mound endurance mountain bike race.  Part of WEMS.

7. Sweetest thing about Madison riding: Diverse trails that are easily accessible.

8. What can CORP improve: Improve trail signage, marketing of trails, etc.

9. I’d like to see CORP double in size in 2009, and continue to gain members in the years to come.

10. Favorite beer:  I love Pale Ales in general, but if I had to pick one it would be Sierra Nevada.

Enough with Kevin let’s give Nate his time in the limelight.  I seem to have misplaced his picture but really after the one of Kevin above you wouldn’t remember Nate’s anyhow!

1. Name: Nate Woolever

2. CORP affiliation: Member since winter 2007.

3. Years riding:  No idea when I first rode a bike probably 30 years ago.  First MTB was a used demo Specialized Rockhopper purchased from New Moon in Hayward, WI after the season of 1989.

4. Current bike:  2008 GF Rig

5. Race plans for your park in 2009:  Work with the club, sponsors, and racers to host a fun and challenging race for the 12 Hours of Blue Mound.  The challenging part will take care of it’s self!

6. Rides / Events in your park for 2009:  12 Hours of Blue Mound

7. Favorite thing about mountain biking in Dane County:  Numerous trail opportunities with vastly different trail characteristics.

8. Area for improvement in Dane County mountain biking:  Build the club by continuing to promote access, sustainable trail building, and advocacy.

9.. What do you want to see CORP accomplish in 2009 and beyond:  Big Picture?  It would be really cool to land a couple really, really big events in the area.  IMBA World Summit in 2010, and Olympics in 2016!  Shorter term, I’d like to see group rides, increased attendence at trail work days, keep the club growing!

10. Favorite beer:  This is the toughest question on here…I’m going to have to say Guinness.
