Quarry Ridge
Description
Quarry Ridge consists of a main loop (about 1 mile) as well as several downhill lines of various difficulty. The main loop starts with a straight shot along the base of the ridge, turns riders up a sandy climb to the high point, then follows the gradually descending ridgeline back to the start of the loop. The singletrack on the main loop is fast and has some sections of very nice flow with only 1 technical section to trip up beginners. More advanced riders can challenge themselves to power through the steep sandy climb, slice through the long downhill with as little brakes as possible, try to beat their own times on each successive loop.
If you want to mix things up or ride something more technical, look for the alternate lines which cut down the face of the ridge. Here they are in the order you would first encounter each trail from the top of the hill:
- Three Sisters trail – starts in the open section at the top of the hill, berms you through some trees and out into the grassy hill face with 3 graduated wooden drops. The run out from the drops is fast with a couple small jumps. Turn left when you get to the bottom to take the “ambulance trail” back to the top of the hill.
- Ambulance trail – this is an overgrown access road which offers a shortcut back up the hill as you run out from the Three Sisters and Sandy Bowl areas. Not worth riding down.
- Sandy Bowl – a single trail leads into this open area with various lines down the hill, all converging at the bottom and spitting riders back out at the base of the Ambulance Trail. There are a number of different ways to ride this, so it’s worth pausing to stop and scout around your first time riding through.
- Tunnel trail – as the main loop turns back downhill, the trail forks at the bottom of an armored descent. Go left to stay on main loop, go right to access the Tunnel trail. The trail starts with a hipped jump and banks back and forth in a feature best described as a natural halfpipe or bobsled run. You’ll pop out near the beginning of the main loop, riding back toward the sandy climb.
